Rules and Safety Guidelines for Fairfield Bay ATV Trails
Trail Access Times
The trail system is open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset only. No overnight parking or camping is permitted on the trails or at staging areas[1][2].
Rider Requirements
- Riders under 16 years old:
- Must wear helmets
- Must be accompanied by an adult
- Not permitted to ride on roadways to access trail systems[2]
- Only licensed drivers may operate vehicles on public roads[2]
- All riders must follow manufacturer safety operation procedures[2]
Vehicle Specifications
All ATVs and UTVs must have:
- Functioning muffler system
- Working spark arrestor[2]
Note: Motorcycles and dirt bikes are not permitted on the trails[2].
Trail Etiquette and Conduct
- Racing is strictly prohibited
- All passing must be done on the left
- Remove all trash when leaving
- Stay on marked trails only
- Do not damage or remove plants, trees, or wildlife[2]
Safety Guidelines
Exercise extra caution as trails may be shared with cars and trucks. For emergencies:
- Dial 911 immediately
- Be prepared to provide trail markers or location information to dispatchers[1]
- Trail markers are numbered for emergency response purposes[1]
Strictly Prohibited
- No alcohol - DUI/DWI laws strictly enforced
- No overnight camping
- No fires
- No hunting
- No off-road 4×4 trucks[2]
Legal Notice
Trail use is voluntary. Fairfield Bay is not liable for any loss, damages, injuries, or thefts that may occur while using the trail system[2].
Road Access Rules
ATVs and UTVs may legally operate on highways within 3 miles of a trailhead. With 90 miles of designated trails throughout Fairfield Bay, riders are never more than 3 miles from a trailhead[1].
